Meeting for May 24, 2012 from 7:30 P.M.– 9:00 P.M. Program: Advanced Cultivation Techniques for Difficult Plants – Presented by Craig Fry

Craig has been growing cacti and succulents for over 20 years and has specialized in growing rare and difficult plants. He and his wife Denise now have a collection of over 3000 varieties of almost every type of succulent, mostly of the small and slow growing collector type species. They grow many from seed and sell plants and top dressings under the name “C and D Plants.”  You can find these plants and top dressings listed on their web site: “CandDPlants.com.”  They have also posted pictures of their plants on the Cacti Guide Forum Section: “cactiguide.com,”  which can also be accessed through their website page heading:  “About Us.”

During the Spring and Fall, they take numerous camping excursions into the desert for rock hounding, photographing wildlife, enjoying nature, and sifting sand.

Craig has a degree in Biology from UCSB and works as an Air Pollution Chemist. He is also well known for his Rock and Mountain Climbing and has published two Rock Climbing Guide books for local climbing areas.

Please join us for an interesting and informative photographic presentation on cultivating cacti and succulents that truly inspire and fascinate collectors of all experiences.

Our speaker this month is Duke Benadom with a presentation on the breathtaking diversity of Death Valley.  Duke has had interests in succulent plants since childhood, and that fascination has not begun to wain as of yet. Duke is continuing to write segments for the popular column of the same name in the Cactus & Succulent Journal. They continue to venture out, mostly with the aid of GPS systems, to perambulate succulent plant habitats and photograph all that nature has to offer.
